Concept
Provide a port to check battery level (since 12V cannot be passed into the micro controller, the battery should be calibrated, 5V representing 12V Battery and 0V representing 0V Battery).
· The aim is not to let the battery voltage fall below 9 Volts.
· There should also be three LEDs, red and green and yellow.
· If there is power in the main (JPS assume this is 12V DC calibrated like the battery), light the green LED otherwise light the RED led.
· When the battery is charging the yellow led should be on.
Inputs
· Present battery state (calibrated version)
· Present JPS state (calibrated version)
Expected outputs
· Charge
· Do not charge
· Lights
Conditions
· If the battery is below 9V at testing - charge
· If the battery is 12V - stop charging
· Remember if there is no main power - you must not charge
· If you have main power - Green LED on
· No main power - Red LED on
· Charging Battery - Yellow LED on
Clue & Suggestion: Testing and charging cannot occur at the same time as you will get a false 12V reading. Testing can be done on a scheduled basis (eg. every 5 mins or every 10 mins)
Do not worry about the intricacies of the circuit, that will be provided. Focus on the micro-controller functionality.
Prize: $200 phone cards for each group member (no specific cell phone provider)
Groups: Up to 5 persons per group
